The more confident you get with your strokes, the faster and longer they will be. Then they will come out more strait as you develop the muscle memory and get better at visualizing the line before you even draw it.
2: Work with the contour our your wrist, look at the little diagram I drew for you. Rotate the paper around your hand to get a better angle of attack.
