“I have heard of your god before.” Lucian said to the Dwarf as he gave his full attention to the Dwarf, “He is your Lord of Death, the one who guides the dead. I see though that this is no… Garden as my Cult would call it.”
“We Dwarfs look upon our dead a little differently than the humans of the Empire or Bretonnia do.” The Dwarf answered him with a solemn nod, “We do not just venerate the Gods, but our Ancestors. You would perhaps only care about those you’ve met in your lifetime, a Great Grandfather perhaps. If you’re a noble, maybe you would care about those that are greatest in your line. We Dwarfs see such things differently.”
Lucian watched as the Dwarf gestured, his hand pointing towards the numerous sarcophagi that were strung across the walls climbing ever deeper and ever higher, “Where we stand is where the King would worship and venerate his Ancestors. Each and every one of them he would attend and learn about like you would a great warrior whose deeds are told in song.”
Lucian gave a nod to those words, having a little understanding of it. It was something to know, not really something he needed to fully comprehend.
“Do Ancestors have expectations of their descendents?” Lucian asked as he rubbed his chin for a moment, “To venerate them in such way, surely their will must be carried out in some way.”
“That is true, and is even further true for almost all Karaks in both the Grey and World’s Edge Mountains.” The Priest said with a nod of understanding, “Always shall one value their Ancestor’s will. Those who are venerable are the most knowledgeable in the will of the Ancestors before he.”
“Which makes them closer to the Ancestor Gods?”
“Yes.” The Priest said with a soft smile that would have gone amiss to someone not used to timid members of Death Cults, “A Dwarf should always listen to their Elders. Sure you can complain, many do, but you always do what your Father and His Father tells you.”
Hearing those words Lucian began to think about his Companion Adok. If he remembered what was said about Adok’s situation. His words came as they were formed, “What is the fate of those who go against the Ancestor’s will.”
“If they are proven wanting,” The Priest began with what was a long breath, “then it is grounds to become a Slayer. Even Heirs of Karaks have faced this fate.”
