Channeling all that power into an actual function is probably safer than just shooting off a beam into space or exploding like a bomb, right? Even just shining the orange light of avarice over the city would probably prompt looting and rioting.
Besides, it would be funny if the construct(s) instantly go(es) rogue and we have to team up against them.
