“Both?” There was a clear confusion within the voice of the Knight as he heard it. He made an action, likely trying to rise from his seat, but the pains of combat stopped his effort quickly. So from the beast he called out, “What do you mean both us? You killed this Vargulf, there is no question to that!”
Lucian did not answer right away, instead walking over to the head of the beast which dangled by its still intact spine. Kneeling for a moment, he pulled out from its eye a metal shard roughly the length of his own arm, “Gillot, you have aided us in saving the Karak. He, that White Dwarf, he was an actor who serves the will of his Gods. We were brought together by at least Grimnir or Grimni’s will, perhaps even Morr’s if my heart sings true.”
“You did not answer my question.” He gave those words with a sort of venom. Though he would not bite, not when it was the aftermath of such a battle.
“Like this blade here, when it is whole we can fight against the darkness. We can blind it, fight it off. That… isn’t that what it means to be a son of Bretonnia?” Lucian said as he looked towards Gillot, “Together we are supreme, but apart the darkness we’ve fought today will spread! Gillot you have seen my trail, the ruin! Bretonnians tearing eachother apart as the throne sits empty!”
“What I saw… what I saw was proof that my words to you that started all this was truth! I saw a trail of ruin that lead from Bordeleaux to Karak Ziflin!”
“You call it my doing?” Lucian asked, not taking anger in his words. Instead the words of Gillot had stung with a tinge of truth.
Gillot looked upon Lucian with a piercing gaze with words that were quick, “You either have the worst or best luck a Knight could ask for. I agree, for our witnessless duty we shall both take credit for the kills. A strike at the same moment for both.”
There was something there Lucian realized. The Prince looked at him with something that was not demanding or declaration. Perhaps, the Knight guessed, the man wanted something?
“Good, we will have a lot of work to do. You will need to heal and I will have to sanctify all these dead.” Lucian said as a group of Dwarfs approached their location.
