Your eyebrows drew together, and you turned on Shaggy, who was approaching from behind.
“Send me back. We need to find Louise and bring her back.” you demanded.
“Why? How can she help?” he asked, glancing past you at the Kaiju King. His tail was wagging nervously.
“Do you remember that satyr that kept following her around?”
Shaggy nodded.
“Aye.”
“Well, he told me that her blood could heal Grandma Young. I never got a chance to test it, but he really seemed to think that it would work.”
“That's a lot of faith to put in a random satyr child, lass.” Shaggy said, raising an inquisitive brow.
“Yeah? Well…it's all we've got to go on.” you answered, throwing your hands up in frustration.
“If you're going, then so am I.” Ben declared, swinging up beside you.
“Me too.” Harpy chimed, crossing over to the group with only a few flaps of her mighty wings.
“Nice. We could use some eyes in the sky.” Ben encouraged her.
“I am also going.” James volunteered, looking mildly better than he did a few minutes ago. Most of his wounds had closed by now, and there were no discernible bruises on him that you could spot through all that fur.
“I remember her scent.” he added, tapping his flat feline nose.
“I'll follow your lead, then. My usual tracking methods won't work too well in an active warzone.” you said, before turning to your recently revived vampire friend. “B, do you think you can watch over our prisoner without chopping his head off?”
“I'll do my best.” B agreed, seeming to sense the gravity of this situation.
You gave him a grateful nod.
“Then we'll be back.” you promised. “Shaggy?”
“On it.” the dog confirmed, already digging another portal into the ground. “Leave the sword this time, would you? It messes with my accuracy.”
You groaned and slipped it off your back. Mercy bound it in cloth, made sure to tie it extra tight, and flung it at B. He caught it effortlessly.
“A present? For me?”
“Yep. Only, this is the kind that you don't unwrap. And I'm coming back for it.” you shot back, pointing a claw at him.
“Worry about yourself. I heard it's bad out there.”
“And it'll only get worse if we can't save their King.”
“It's not your job to save everyone, Cindy.”
You stared up at Khonshu's statue, closed your eyes, and took a deep breath.
“I know. But I've gotta try. These people deserve that, at least.”
People. Not monsters. Just like humans, everyone down here is just trying their best to survive. Even if Khonshu wasn't entirely concerned with their fate, you knew that there were people here worth saving.
“Watch your back out there.” Ben said, stepping closer to the edge of the portal.
“That's what I have you for.”
“Then who's watching mine?”
“Ana, of course. I think she likes your butt.”
“I'm aware. That last slap she gave me is gonna leave a mark.” he said, rubbing his rear end.
Harpy tilted her head to get a better look at the Huntsman’s backside. Your foster father turned to lock eyes with her, before looking away.
