>SELECTED: "What are you, Brother-Sergeant Jesaul, a kennel master that is worried where his pups spill their seed? But yes, there is one, although I keep her name close to my heart." While you still have a mix of respect and fear for the old knight, this is no Romaine border fort where you will be whipped by a tongue lashing into obedience. You're an equal knight with this old war dog, show him that you have a bark of your own. [Hearty]+[Haughty]
<span class="mu-i">"What are you, Brother-Sergeant Jesaul, a kennel master that is worried where his pups spill their seed?”</span> You found yourself bristling at your old master-at-arms’ words, his interrogation going well beyond propriety befitting a conversation between noblemen. <span class="mu-i">“But yes, there is one, although I keep her name close to my heart."</span>
For the longest time Brother-Sergeant Jesaul does not reply, his brow furrowed in consternation as the two of you stand at an impasse in the arch of the entrance to your quarters.
<span class="mu-i">“...”</span> At last, the furrow of the brow softens ever so slightly. <span class="mu-i">“Well, well, well. So the young cub at last shows some teeth. I had heard the stories, but I had to see it for myself. Fine then sprout, keep your secrets. I hope that this clandestine paramour of yours, be she real or an invention, does not keep us long in waiting for the next generation of Romani soldiers. We are always in need of more meat for the grinder.”</span>
<span class="mu-i">“That is… a particularly bleak way of describing our Romani term of service upon coming of age.”</span> You frown, trying to brush past the fact that the terror of your teenage years nearly -smiled- at you speaking back to him. <span class="mu-i">“Speaking of which, I had thought that you were practically a part of the battlements of our Comitas border fort. Are you escorting pilgrims to Cathagi now or here on some other business?”</span>
<span class="mu-i">“Wouldn’t you like to know, sprout.”</span> The Brother-Sergeant sniffs, but then ultimately relents with an uncharacteristically immature roll of the eyes. <span class="mu-i">“Chapter-Master Danzel felt that a sabbatical might be of some benefit to myself. And in their wisdom the order saw fit to send me here, to this den of hedonism and… heathens.”</span>
The furrowed brows of the holy knight are this time aimed at Antoninus, busy making himself appear as innocuous as possible. Many of the Knights Comitas have a reputation for being, if not accepting and open-minded, then at the very least tolerant of the practices of others given the wide range of peoples and creeds that their duties take them into contact with. Brother-Sergeant Jesaul is not one of them. If the Romani Chapter-Master’s intention had been to soften some of the hardline edges of your former commander by posting him in a more conciliatory Comitas station abroad, you suspect it hasn’t had the desired effect. At least Antoninus isn’t bothering to introduce himself to the clearly hostile Comitas.
