>>5924677“W-what madness is this?!” Bennett screeches furiously. With the addition of Kate on the battlefield, the Patriarch has grown far less confident. Surrounded on all sides by foes, you hope that he may throw down his weapon and surrender. But you knew better. Bennett was an ambitious and proud man even before Diogenes and Anacharsis had sunk their hooks into him. He truly believed he was Sothis’ chosen, sent to save her followers and deliver them to heaven. There was no way he would give up. “My Goddess! Please, I beseech you! Grant me the power to destroy these villains!”
Bennett begins swiftly pulling back the string of his bow and letting lose. Magical arrows are conjured in rapid-fire succession and fired in every direction. Bennett no longer takes aim for his targets. Projectiles fly through the bridge, the tower, and in some cases, only several inches away from your throat. He activates his Crest, and the rapid-fire volley doubles, to the point you think the entire bridge might collapse. The crazed look in his eyes amplifies, and he looks at you as though you were the actual demon that he spoke of.
Unfortunately for him, his barrage of attacks was unable to stop what was coming.
Bennett is impaled from three different directions by yourself, Ingrid, and Kate in what could be described as a makeshift Triangle Attack. The Inexhaustible defiantly glows blue, as if charging itself to heal the Patriarch once more. Before it can though, the three of you twist and rip your spears out. No magic, not even the healing enchantments on Bennett’s Hero’s Relic, can save the man from his fate. He falls to his knees amidst an explosion of gore, his bow dropping to the floor in a clatter.
“W-what is happening…?” Bennett looks up to the sky, eyes wide and mouth opening. “S-Sothis…I can no longer hear your voice. W-where did you go? This trial… save me…please…”’
He falls face-down on the ground. The tornado summoned by his Wind Caller’s Genesis evaporates into the air, signifying that you’d succeeded in ending the Patriarch’s life for good. Back at the bridge, you could see that the Blackwings had formed a defensive line and were holding off the pilgrims. An empty space was between the two of them, dotted with several corpses. By now, it looked like the more suicidal of the pack had already done themselves in, and the rest of their kind were showing more restraint, albeit not very much.
>“They’re still at it. I don’t know if showing them Bennett’s corpse will get them to stand down.” You wonder out loud as you watch the scene. “It might make them even madder than they already are. What do you think?”When Ingrid doesn’t answer you, you turn around to see her and Kate brandishing their spears against each other.
“She’s the one who left you for dead, isn’t she?” Ingrid asks. “Do you really think we can trust her?”
