Jack took you aside to discuss how to handle Kryska.
“Maiyumi, I’m not sure I’m comfortable building Kryska a ship knowing she’ll take it and get into a fight with Starwind.”
“If they wish to fight each other, that's their business. I would remind you that we have sold to clients that are almost certainly criminals. You didn’t have a crisis of conscience when our thunderbirds were used for piracy, nor when we sold herons to the militia that would almost certainly face off against said pirates.”
“I know that but this feels… different.”
“Do you care for that woman?”
Jack sulked as he struggled to answer.
“...kind of? She always did right by me as my security chief, I guess you could say I consider her a friend?”
“So make sure her ship can defeat Starwind’s.”
Jack frowned even harder.
“Don’t tell me you think of that buffoon as a friend too?”
“What? I like the cut of his jib, reminds me of myself, just without all the girls.”
You sigh in exasperation.
“You can’t have it both ways.”
“What if they just… roughed each other up and disengaged?”
“They are on opposite sides of a war Jack, you cannot expect either side to hold back just to spare your feelings.”
“Arrrgh! I know!”
Seeing Jack get all torn up like that inspired an ounce of pity in you.
“You’ve shown yourself to be more competent than I ever expected you to be. Out of respect for that I’ll let you have the final word on this decision. If you would try to protect her, turn Kryska away or optimise her ship for the Union theater.”
“Way to put the burden on me, your highness.”
“It was always on you; they’re your friends not mine. I personally don’t care if they live or die. What I do care about is my sister's colony. Not outfitting Kryska to face down Starwind goes directly against my interests, yet I offer you this concession.”
((I’m boiling this down to only two choices so the vote doesn’t get spoiled by the limitations of the first past the post system.))
>It’s time to choose…
>Commit to building Kryska a new ship for the defence of Shima Colony (Move on to a scene where Shin-Claih briefs you on Starwinds capabilities and the tactical situation around Shima. The final fate of Kryska and Starwind will eventually be decided by dice rolls.)
>Steer Kryska away (Move on to selecting another capital ship job, including creating a ship for the Union campaign.)
