Lucian gave the man a once over, looking over the man who was dressed in pompous clothing that was clearly marking him as someone greater than the others. He did not care about that, but that the man was still trying to close that damned bridge between the two of them after Lucian breaking his arm.
“Calling someone a Mutant is not something that one lets slide.” Lucian pointed out as he gave a small sneer, “In my village we burned people who were called that. They were creatures that we feared would spread the taint of chaos to the rest of the family or run off into the forest to bring a herd of their fellow Beastmen.”
The man did not respond quickly, weighing the words carefully, “You got a point, but I got the final say in those matters. These sailors knew that disobeying me would bring the wrath of the Guild down on them, let alone the wrath of Mann. I can see both sides, you see, but the situation you placed yourself in made it so its now impossible for me to deliver punishment.”
“It was that fool, the man you scared away.” Lucian gestured with his head towards the stairs to the decks below, “He’s got something hiding, and you allowed him to talk over me. There was no chance I had to defend myself.”
The man thought to himself for a moment before leaning in, “You walk into a room, seeing one of your paying passengers being lifted by a heavily armored man with green eyes. That man who is being held paid you to protect him from the seas and others, now you find him about to be beaten up. Thats what both I myself and the crew first saw, and where you should have just left.”
“Let him roam? He is hiding something from us. I know that with certainty. The stench of the grave is thick on him.” Lucian pointed out.
The man shrugged, “Probably could if this was a Bretonnian Ship, but this is a Marienburg Vessel. If I arrest a paying customer without reason, and you come up empty handed, then its the Guild’s name on the line. If there was evidence though…”
“So if I vow to listen to your words, you’ll let me investigate the fool?” Lucian asked with a little bit of suspicion in his voice.
“Aye, to an extent.”
“Then I hereby swear on the Lady’s name to listen to you, the Captain of this vessel, until my departure to Albion.” Lucian gave to the man.
With a smile on his face the man went forward and hacked at the ropes. Within a few moments the bindings came undone and Lucian fell onto the ground.
