“You should delay your order Miss Edelfelt, this could be a trap to split us up.” You decide to argue against immediately sending her Lancer to chase down that person; you figure there’s a good chance that whoever sent the familiar Lancer of Red blew up might not have given up on surveilling you. Someone else could have done likewise too.
“Delay until what development, Einzbern?” She asked in response, using the name she assigned you.
“Let Avenger check around for enemy familiars first. If there’s something there we can destroy it and stay together, otherwise we’ll be on standby back here if your Lancer needs us.” You reply. Your Servant nodded and started gesturing around with her staff. Must be how she searched.
“Hmm.” Truvieitianne muttered as she briefly deliberated, before ordering, “Alright Lancer, hold position for a few moments.”
“I could have caught him in less than ten seconds just now.” Lancer grumbled, “The more we delay, the less viable going after him becomes.”
“Thought you could sneak that by me did you? Nice try, modern mage.” Avenger thought out loud.
“What did you find?” You ask.
With a smug grin, she answered, “I didn’t detect a familiar, but there’s a pocket of residual mana a few blocks behind us that would match quite well with what would remain of a familiar that was ordered to self-destruct a few moments ago. A fair attempt at stealth, for an amateur.”
“So we are still being watched. Maybe we should just ignore it and continue south as planned.” Edelfelt suggested, “Whoever it was may lose patience because we didn’t take the bait and either pick a different target or attack at a disadvantage.”
“We don’t know if they were trying to split us up, lure all of us onto different terrain, or if the runner and the familiar’s user were even coordinating their actions. For now I say we move on since we’ve lost initiative, but going forward we shouldn’t second-guess or overthink everything we do.” Lancer said, “There’s a difference between prudence and paralyzing-caution.”
“There’s also a difference between taking initiative and being reckless,” You retort a bit sourly, then add:
> “But I do agree we should continue our leyline survey as before and see if whoever’s watching us decides to take further action as we go.”
> “With that said, I still think we should move together and track down where that person ran off too.” (You can add details on how to go about it if you wish)
