>>6361347Hamilcar gives the chalkboard a meaty slap. “Your opponents are posted here. Each of you will square off against each other in one-on-one bouts. You are allowed only two weapons that you may carry into the arena. Note that equipment such as shields or magic staves will count as one of your allotted weapon slots.”
Leonora would use Thyrsus of course. The Hero’s Relic of House Gloucester was infamous for its power. Stories made mention that it had killed soldiers by the hundreds during the Battle of Gronder Field. And now all of its awesome power would be focused squarely on you. Wonderful. But what would be her second weapon? Perhaps something for melee? If it came down to that, Leonora wouldn’t stand a chance. Surely she knew that?
“All other items are strictly prohibited.” Hamilcar continues. “No healing items of any sort are allowed.”
Homer raises a hand, grabbing Hamilcar’s attention.
“What if one’s chosen weapon has been blessed with the ability to heal?” The purple knight asks.
A good question. You knew his Blessed Lance contained such properties. As did your own Inexhaustible.
“Weapons enchanted with such an effect are allowed.” Hamilcar continues. “As are spells that restore and mend wounds. This rule applies only to items such as concoctions or elixirs.”
Excellent. The Inexhaustible’s healing properties were the best trump card you could rely on, perhaps even greater than the boost to speed it allowed you to enjoy.
“Mounts of all types are allowed within the arena.” Hamilcar continues. “Flying mounts though, such as wyverns, are not allowed to take flight unless against other wyverns. Taking flight against a grounded opponent shall be cause for disqualification.”
Figures you couldn’t just fly out of Leonora’s reach and snipe her. That second part was interesting though. Should Uriyan win, would your battle take place in the skies?
“Finally, battles conclude either when an opponent is killed, rendered unable to fight, or admits surrender to me, the round’s proctor.”
“We aren’t forced to kill our opponents?” Arios asks. His question prompts an annoyed snort from Butch.
“No.” Hamilcar confirms. “Opponents considered unable to fight are those who have been rendered unconscious, or maimed in a way where fighting is no longer possible.”
The crowd roars loudly. Something has grabbed their attention, and you can faintly hear the sound of a woman addressing them. This seems to serve as a cue to Hamilcar.
“The tournament shall begin shortly. Following today’s battles, you will be granted a night of rest, before continuing tomorrow. If you have any questions, now is the time. Otherwise, we shall commence with our first bout, Saoirse vs Uriyan.”
