Niel grit his teeth as the Chimera's frame squeaked and clunked in protest, tumbling it's way through the copse, ponderous like a spring bear late out of hibernation, starved blind and still unable to find a kill. This was taking too much time. So much rushing around, no pay off. The enemy hadn't even shown him it's face, yet the stress was getting to him.
From the intercom his gunner recounted what his gunsight showed him unfolding up north, through the brief gaps in the trees: Two recon units and a Jager had taken some damage and were backed up to the treeline. Those responsible? Armoured cars. Two, perhaps more? His gunner hadn't been certain. Tanks too, the heavy type T-16, now wreathed in smoke. His Jagers could do little beyond mere supression in a long range frontal engagement against them, but the cars... There was a chance to draw blood. Vilgerson... The other Vilgerson, [C-7], should still have been closeby, making their run north across the open ground. A dangerous gambit with that many guns pointing back, even for panzers. It would be reckless to shadow them and draw fire, but that seemed to be the order of the day and he hadn't caught an angry shot so far. Maybe his utter lack of presence on the battlefield today would let him slip beneath the attention of death himself? Ugh...
>>5467463"[J-3] to [C-7], belay that last transmission, the trees were a dead end. No point wasting time digging in here, we're tailing your approach up north instead. We'll aim to draw fire long enough to distract the armoured cars if you cover [J-5] from the heavies... Good luck... N-niel out"
His resolve was faltering already. Villi's stomach was lurching even before the Chimera did as he snapped the order to break cover and throw his precious last two glass cannons into the avalance outside. This either goes well... or it doesn't. He dropped in his seat and slammed shut the hatch.
