>>5600048>>5600053>Armellooh no! I played it on mobile, where they were pretty generous with the ring / rune ability and character unlocks, I think I did buy everything, it was actually pretty cheap (maybe half the price of a PC game for everything) unlike PUBG or Apex gacha, but that was probably why the game never made any money or was too successful. I just found it incredibly well designed, the music, art lore and animations, everything fits together with the day night cycle etc. There was also huge scope for meta strategy (you could sign pacts with other players, make alliances to pay each other gold etc or nonviolent allegiance) and I especially liked multiple win conditions, kill everyone, kill the king, heal the king, kill king but become corrupted evil, or just ignore this all go for prestige completing quests and perils etc. The multiple win condition thing is something I really want to copy in my games as well as the day night cycle (if you remember in my last quest, I tried to give an option with the battlemap to attack during day / night etc). I have not been too successful because Armello is just so well designed and integrated it is hard to copy the subcomponents of it without copying the whole thing.
I think some players did not understand the game, it is brutal (if you make 1 mistake you can mess up pretty badly, but there is always some scope for last minute shock snatch victory etc). Also some people thought it is just completely random - but it is not. You can manipulate the deck by cycling fast through the cards (this is really important) what you want to do is to constantly be harassing other players with every peril and spell. There is also a judgement of whether to hoard good cards or not as you can lose them all with the King's rulings each round etc.
That said I haven't played Armello for a long time, the playerbase dropped off it was impossible to find a match with waiting times. I think you can play against AI but it is too easy. I have not checked recently, I hope they have not gone down the route of monetisation or pay-to-win.
I think it is free on mobile still, it is worth downloading it just to play a few matches against the AI and see the amazing animated card deck, the dice battles and explore the perils and characters etc. I like the art style it feels medieval and not in a generic dungeonpunk dnd way etc.
Pic related is the Willow's Grace dice, they are so beautiful in the game. The Abbott's Eye stained glass church window style dice set is also really pretty, I mostly use that one.
