>>5893179“…I think we should leave.” You add in, and your team mates look to you to listen. “I don’t think it’s worth the risk waiting for the enemy to find us when half the squad is already down. I bet the rest of our forces are too busy dealing with the Zeon main forces to just conveniently show up and save us. No.. if there’s one thing I learned, it’s that nobody will magically come and make everything better. If you want to protect people, you have to do it with your own two hands.” You say, thinking back on painful memories. Gaspa and Yunnus are silent, but they’re not protesting, so you continue. “I’ve seen a few empty cars nearby, maybe we could commandeer one to take back to base?”
“I know how to hot-wire a car.” Gaspa adds in.
“Perfect, we can scout out the nearby area and see if there are any usable cars out there that can fit our injured.” You say.
“But you’re injured too!” Yunnus states, referring to your arm. It’s stopped bleeding, but now that he’s pointed it out, it does sting like fucking hell.
“It doesn’t feel great, but my legs can run just fine. Besides, I think it would be better for you to stay here and keep watch over everyone, you’ve got the most medical experience out of the three of us in case any of them take a turn for the worse..unless you have any objections, sir?” You say.
Yunnus sighs after thinking it over. “I guess this is our best shot.. just don’t wander off too far.”
“Yes sir!” You say with a salute using your uninjured right arm. You hand Yunnus Ben’s heavy assault rifle, and leave the building with Gaspa taking point.
You search the nearby cars while Gaspa keeps watch. Each car you inspect is in varying conditions, with some being too damaged for use, and some only having a few bumps and thick layers of dust. Most aren’t big enough to fit your whole squad, and nearly all have little to no gas in the tank.
A lot of these cars have no gas. You think the civvies siphoned gas from abandoned cars around here? Would anyone even be around still?” You wonder out loud.
“Wouldn’t be surprised. I doubt there’s that big of a law enforcement presence around with shit the way it is now” Gaspa replies.
After checking all the nearby cars, you sigh in frustration. “We’re not getting anywhere...There are a few houses in the perimeter, maybe we can check for cars in the garages. I'd rather not break into any homes, but we also can't let half of our squad die."
"Maybe we can bring it back after the battle." Gaspa offers, and you can't tell if he's joking or not. You split up and search homes in the perimeter. You feel bad for forcing entry, but these houses should be abandoned anyway. Most people who could leave Australia already have, and many others moved to wherever they could to avoid Zeon occupational forces.
