You lunged forward, pushing off the ground with incredible force in order to catapult yourself towards the redheaded enforcer. You brought up your hands, and for some reason, she brought up her swords to block your attack instead of retaliating or trying to beat you out with her superior range.
Your hands flashed, and you quickly switched over to your alternative vision setting. At that point, you didn’t so much see the surge of light as you felt it. It was a warmth that washed over your hands and bathed your face. And in response, Mary…flipped her swords around and tried to use the reflection of the surprise attack to blind you!
You didn’t see the light that reflected off of it, but you were sure that that was what she was trying to do. The action was so similar to what Snowsnake had tried to do that you nearly got your head chopped off trying to figure out why she reacted the way that she did. She couldn’t have possibly known what you were going to do. You haven’t used this move often enough for anyone to come up with a way to counter it.
When your feet touched the ground again, you were already ducking another swing. Even without her eyes, Mary seemed to have a good idea of where you were at all times.
You shot a quick webline at her exposed chest, and she severed the line almost as fast. However, she wasn’t quite fast enough to prevent you from pulling her closer to you. You raised your leg to catch her with a high kick, only to receive a kick from Mary herself as soon as she was within range!
Both of you pushed off of one another as soon as your feet made contact with the chest of your respective opponent. It was such a bizarre interaction that you were momentarily dumbfounded. You stared at Mary, and she kept smiling, blinking bleary eyes and rubbing at them with her jacket’s sleeves.
“What a rush!” she declared, seemingly not offended by your dirty trick.
Not wanting to give her time to recover, you leapt into the air, shot a webline at the ground near her feet and pulled yourself towards her in order to quickly close the distance.
Mary sent an insanely telegraphed swing in your direction and you twisted in mid-air to avoid it. But for some reason, your spider sense was practically screaming at you.
You couldn’t figure it out. You could literally see the attack. It was slow, clunky and super easy to avoid so long as you knew it was coming. It felt like an amateurish move, at best. But then again, Mary wasn’t an amateur by any means. So why did this feel like…bait.
Too late, you felt an intense heat enveloping your body. Your suit’s insulation only made it feel that much more unbearable.
Not wanting to take any further damage, you quickly readjusted your trajectory and swung away from the danger, giving Mary a swift kick to the jaw as a parting blow. When you were out of harm's way, you switched back to your normal vision, and saw fire. Nothing but fire.
