You turn and look over your shoulder, expecting it to be gone. It isn't. It stands there as plain as day, but doesn't take further action. For a moment, you wish it was gone, and it fades away.
Erika has not noticed you staring down the office hallway for twenty seconds.
"Did you see that?" You ask carefully.
"See what?" Erika looks at you for the first time. "Leila, you look really pale." Her keen eyes scan you. "And you have dirt all over your jacket. Did you fall? Are you okay?"
You wish the thing was back, so that Erika could see it. As soon as you think it, the thing reappears, and Erika doesn't react. It moves in front of her. She only continues looking at you with concern.
"Leila? Are you all right?"
