>>6145976Agreeing with Adam, you dump some of the scrap and box up two of the drones. Strapping everything in, you note that the group of orcs previously bidding their time has now driven down to the fresh dump site and begun their search. After the process, Adam offered to drive the car in front of the truck and guide the way back home.
Going along with his offer you start the truck and begin driving back into the city. Retracing your way through the outskirts the streets are now nearly empty. No watchful eye or casual disdain to be found. This continues for a time, and you and Adam hit an intersection.
Only seeing a car or two on a different road, you admire the tapestry of hanging lights that are strewn across some buildings. Ignoring any sort of code or safety they drape and illuminate the surroundings in various colors. The sight of Adam speeding up makes you focus on the road once again.
Your phone rings as the caller ID shows Adam’s contact, and you quickly answer.
“Kelly, we need to make a decision. We are being tailed. I saw three cars taking a constant route parallel to ours.”
“For how long?”
“An hour, on top of that you see any on the streets where we are headed?”
“No, I don’t.”
“More superstition then anything else but I got the feeling the locals know somethings up.”
You take a breath in before replying, “So we are changing direction?”
“Maybe, I’m torn between just flooring it and hoping we don’t run into any police on the way in, or take an alternate route and seeing if we can lose them.”
“So you want me to pick?”
“You always seem to make it work.” You can almost envision Adam shrugging his shoulders as he says that.
“We could also split up and make them choose which one to go for.” You suggest.
“Problem being only one of us has goods with them.” He counters.
“Yeah, point taken.”
“We need to make a choice quick though, I don't like what I'm seeing.”
“You think it could be more scavs?” You ask.
“Pretty damm sure you killed them all, really fast response time if it their buddies.”
“So someone else?”
“I don’t know? Most likely.”
Looking around you manage to spot one of the cars, a black station-wagon with tinted windows drives to your right. Briefly disappearing behind the rows of house, but every so often appears again keeping speed.
“Adam, I think I see one of them. Black station-wagon to the right, where are the other two?”
“One was a little bit ahead of us, went further ahead last time I saw it. The other was to our left, but most likely behind us. Their route next to us ended in a cul-de-sac.”
What will you do?
