>>5560877Mariah sports the most obvious reaction of the bunch. She’s clearly surprised to see Scratch in the Great Hall, though there doesn’t seem to be anything else there other than shock.
On the other hand, you see what looks like visible confusion and perhaps even anger flash across Nancy’s face. The emotions appear for only a moment before they subside into a more normal appearance.
As for the stable hand, the small girl looks fearful upon laying eyes on the bandit. An ordinary reaction for a child to have upon spotting an escaped prisoner, you figure. Still, better to not leave anything to chance.
Finally, the cook, Wally, simply glances towards your direction, but doesn’t seem to have any reaction at all. He bears the same composed look on his face that you recall from earlier.
“What’s all this, then?” Kendo asks. “Why’d you let that prisoner out?!”
>“It seems in the chaos of everything that’s occurred in Ordelia, she had been forgotten down in the dungeons. Better to have her with us and find some use out of her then letting her continue to starve in prison, languishing in complete darkness, no?”Kendo looks towards Lysithea for assistance but finds none.
“If Blair thinks it’s a good idea, then I support her.” Lysithea says. “Though I’m somewhat troubled by what she just said. You had prisoners starving in darkness down in the dungeon? Since when do we do such things? Were these my father’s orders? Martin’s?”
“No, Little Lady.” Kendo says. “That order came directly from Cornelius, our Knight Commander. It was certainly a bit harsh, but Cornelius is a good man. We saw no reason not to comply. It’s just a bandit after all.”
>You feel Scratch bristle next to you, but fortunately she manages to restrain herself and recall your words. “And where is this Cornelius now? Is he among you?”Kendo shakes his head. “I’d imagine he’s probably still out in the city, looking for Count Ordelia and his wife.”
“I tried to do something, Lady Lysithea.” Mariah suddenly stands, speaking determinedly. “But when I tried to offer the prisoner some reprieve, he screamed at me! I’d never seen anyone so mad before. He said if I did it again, he’d expel me from the castle!”
So, Cornelius gave the order to keep the dungeon under complete darkness. Could he have done so in order to keep the newly active lab hidden? His absence would make finding out his true intentions impossible for the time being. But if Nancy was one suspect, Cornelius was likely the second. And if he was in fact an Agarthan, you didn’t like the idea of him wandering around the city while the rest of the Blackwings were camped outside. You needed to find your last two suspects.
“So, did this little sideshow of yours provide you with any useful information? Or can I go ahead and finally kill this rat?” Kendo asks you.
