MEANWHILE, AT WAYNE MANOR
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDXe7UAxe-8This is nice.
Since you’re still in town and things have finally started to quiet down between Bane and the Penguin, everyone was finally able to get together for a meal.
Alfred usually insists on cooking, but Bruce was able to strong-arm him into taking the night off and kicking back a little.
Wasn’t easy, but Bruce can be surprisingly persuasive when he feels like removing the steel rod lodged squarely up his ass.
It’s for the best anyways. Alfred’s cooking is always top-notch, but it’s far too healthy for regular consumption.
So instead, you, Bruce, Tim, and Barbara are splitting some incredibly greasy Chinese takeout in the Bat-Cave.
As you slurp through a container of noodles, you take a moment to enjoy the pure bliss of artery-clogging fast food.
It’s hard to find good Asian fare in Blüdhaven, and you’ve been jonesing for something from a restaurant that actually passes its health inspection.
Bruce is picking at his order of sweet-and-sour pork , whereas Tim is steadily devouring a massive plate of chicken satay.
In contrast, Barbara seems more interested in re-reading a stack of files; barely having touched a thing.
You just mentally shrug. She’s a big girl who can make her own decisions, good or bad.
Tim asks you a couple questions about life in Blüdhaven, which is enough to break Barbara out of her funk.
She looks up from her dinnertime reading, with an inquisitive look in her eye that bodes trouble.
“Have there been any sightings of Gunsmoke?”
Bingo. Knew it was coming.
> “Jeez, how many times are you going to ask that? I told you, as soon as anything pops up, I’d let you know.”Maybe. You’ll definitely think about it, at least. Ever since Gunsmoke sacked her in Keystone City, she just hasn’t been able to let it go.
Which makes it prime teasing material.
> “So he embarrassed you a couple times and pulled off a heist or two under your nose. I don’t see what all the fuss is about.”“He’s a killer! Are you really so blasé about just letting him walk around freely!?”
> “Pfft. I’ve read the reports. I’d rather deal with mercs like Gunsmoke instead of the deadbeats crawling around Blüdhaven. Besides, no shop talk while we’re eating. You know the rules.” You admonish, punctuating the reprimand by stealing an eggroll from Barbara’s plate. After easily dodging her half-hearted attempt to stab you in the hand with a plastic fork, you savor the fruits of your larceny.
Barbara’s still determined to prove her point, as stubbornly muleheaded as ever.
“He put me and Tim in the hospital! Not to mention what he did to M’gann!”
You lean forward, all humor gone.
> “And he could’ve put you all in the morgue instead. Be grateful that he’s not a total animal and get over it.”
Tim pipes up, still chewing a mouthful of chicken.
“So, we should just let him get away scot-free?”
