Clearing your throat and readjusting your position in the chair, you sat up a little straighter. “Why do you want Cindy to disobey your deity? Isn’t an avatar supposed to be an extension of them or something?” you asked. “Not that I disagree with it. After all the cult has done to harm her, I think she at least deserves to have a bit of normalcy and happiness in her life. Well, unless she has some sort of Plague of Egypt-style divine wrath brought down upon her as a result of her disobedience.”
“I am not saying that I wish for Ms. Moon to disobey my God.” he began. “I simply said that she does not have to comply with ‘everything’ that he asks of her.”
Both of you tilted your heads in confusion, unsure of the distinction between the two.
“When I first entered Khonshu’s service, the sheer power of his presence dominated my mind. His purpose, his mission, became my entire reason for being. Serving him was my whole life.” he said, turning his attention to Cindy. “But it doesn’t have to be yours. Khonshu wishes for you to replace me, but I will continue serving him in the way that I think best. I advise that you do the same.”
She gave him a skeptical look, and Mr. Knight chuckled lightly. “Oh, don’t worry. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Protect the innocent, strike fear into those that would harm the ones who travel under the moon’s light, seeking safe passage. I implore you to adopt this mission, Ms. Moon, but for your own sake, make it your own. Find your own way to serve Khonshu. Find a way that doesn’t lead you to ruin. Cindy Moon is just as important as the Hunter’s Moon.” he said, sounding genuinely concerned for her.
Cindy nodded, her eyes filled with determination. Mr. Knight returned the nod, seemingly pleased by her attitude.
“Oh! One more thing!” you put in, startling Cindy. “I was told that a crescent moon shaped helicopter attacked a few vampires that were helping us to put down the ones that hurt her.” you said, pointing at Cindy. “Do you know anything about that? I initially thought that it might have been you, but after seeing your secretary, I’ve changed my mind.”
Mr. Knight sighed and visibly sank into his chair. “Yes, I know who it is.” he admitted. “Not too long ago, a fair bit of my property was stolen from a secret bunker. Out of those items, one of which was the Mooncopter that your friend spotted over the city. It was stolen by my brother.”
“Your brother? Is he a vampire?” you asked.
Mr. Knight shook his head. “No. He is merely a heretic and a fool that wishes to hand the night over to those that would prey on the innocent. We have surmised that he is working with the one known as Baroness Blood.”
