His family was nothing but a memory, that bridge burned from both sides after he had left for Sosaldt, not so long ago.
"It's not us Walter, it's You."
His unit had politely but firmly mutinied against him after the shenanigans he had pulled in the last operation.
"You literally kidnapped me. I'm taking command now."
He watched as Haile-1, Haile-2 and Haile-3 rode off. He had no ties left to the homeland he had almost died for.
And so, Walter shuffled quietly through foreign lands, his purpose discharged. All he had left was the clothes on his back, useless reams of backpay and a a flare gun.
Yet. Not lost. The experience had changed him irrevocably. His world had been upturned. It was so much bigger now.
He wandered, traveling along coastlines, away from the land anchoring his feet. Pestering pilots and airlines for anything they knew, "One ticket to Hemelsberg and Himmelsdorf please." They laughed. He seethed.
Next stop would be the rumored haunts of the infamous Sky Pirates. The Free Folk. We'll see if there's nothing but disappointment there as well.
Yet. A smile inched across his face. He'd keep looking up until he found it.
