The lake continuous to ripple before you as the filtering facilities you’ve built churn the algae without end. Its population should stay stable as long as there are no real disturbances. Each facility also produces algae bars on the spot. The greenish bar before you is rather unappealing as you take a bite of it looking through the window. Bland, at best, though there are a few variants, one with salt, other with sugar, some dried ones to be crunchier. Still, you are eating algae. And all of the appeal that comes to that. Such a surplus though is now becoming a headache as the warehouses are now full, meaning what could once be cleared out for court cases or celebrations is no longer possible.
Though, it is a great blessing that your biggest headache at the moment is having too much food, rarely you doubt such thoughts would fill the mind of most colonists in the middle of nowhere.
And all this took just a month. Quite surprising at the same time, but also not really, as the same facility was simply repeated over and over again, which meant that once the workers built a couple, they knew nearly by instinct how to make more and more. And did they make more indeed. You have to admit, the strong green colour was slightly off putting, but now the azure blue of the lake and the rivers leading into it appears quite inviting. You’d go for a swim, if you wouldn’t choke to death due to the atmosphere still being hostile to human life.
“Fuck you !”
Your revelry is broken as a high-pitched voice shouts that out. Turning towards it, you strain your ears to make sure you’ve heard it correctly.
A shout of pain followed swiftly thereafter. “Whoe ! Whoe !” repeated ad nauseam in a childish voice that struggles to correctly pronounce the word – whore.
Putting down the bar you were chewing on, you walk with swift, large steps towards the door leading into John’s and Magnus’ room.
“What’s going on here ?!” You shout out with your best authoritative officer’s voice.
Inside, you find Magnus pinned down underneath John. Unsurprisingly as a six-year-old Magnus had been easily overpowered by the nearly nine-year-old John. Though, you note that both of them have bloody noses and you can easily see how much Magnus struggles even if it is clear that victory is out of his reach.
Though with you showing up, and this being the first time you had ever shouted at them, both of them freeze. Both of them look at you. And finally, both of them start crying. Loudly.
“M-Ma-Mag.” John starts, barely able to form words over his endless cries.
You approach both of them, and thanks to your empathetic and trustworthy personality, both quickly come down after you take them both into your arms.
“Now then. What happened ?”
“Magnus called me stupid.” John says.
“You said stupid first ! Cut !” Magnus quickly interjects.
