“How did she know you had potential?” You believe this information will prove useful in present times! To find people with special abilities like you before getting Philonune, Bradford or Kata.
“Mommy—, I mean, Mother had the funny glasses. Ohm, I should say, the Spiritual Goggles.” Fiora pantomimes their shape with her hands.
“You mean these? These look like binoculars to me.” You pull the Weird-Looking Goggles that Crossbill stole from Ophelia out. Yeah, you kept them. You brought all your stuff with you in a bag, so here they are.
“Those ones, Mr. Phil! Yes! This explains it all, you were trained at one of the five temples!” Fiora gets very excited at seeing them. Poor soul, it never crossed her mind that these were stolen. “My mom taught me that centuries ago, people like us were persecuted, our monasteries burned down – and much of our knowledge was lost. That’s why she believed modern temples’ teachings lack substance. And why you don’t know how to use our Spiritual Goggles!”
“Oooh!” You don’t want to get into a deep talk about genocide with a child, so you’ll ask about something else. “How do they work?” You hand them to her to see the magic.
“There’s a switch here.” Fiora grabs points at a tiny wheel on the bottom of the goggles! “In this mode, you can see internal spiritual energy!” She puts them in front of you to check this out. You can see energy flowing through Kobashi’s body. Woah!
“I’m looking strong, huh?” Kobashi flexes for the sake of it.
“Kobashi, this is literally the first time I've ever seen this. I have no idea.” You deadpan. Kobashi frowns.
“With this, you can determine the amount of spiritual energy one has. The larger the amount, the bigger the opportunity to be special like us!” Fiora explains. “There’s an old man who was able to do this without using the goggles. So even that can turn into an ability!”
“I imagine he’s that teacher, Hubbard.” Kobashi looks disgusted for a moment.
“Turning the switch allows you to see external spiritual energy!” Fiora pulls the trigger again. And as she says, you can’t see Kobashi’s energy anymore. Everything looks normal… How quaint.
“Woah, cool!” You reiterate, you see nothing. “What’s the difference? Why is it like this?”
