You can't get him out of the firing line just yet. As soon as you're in the clear, you can send him into the Digivice to hide him from their scans. But you need him right now to protect you from attacks. You cling on and wait for him to execute his plan.
By now, the ground troops have been left behind. They've stopped shooting you and are continuing to clear up the streets. A few Rookies are peeking out, but with this many enemies, none are foolish enough to start anything. They just duck back into cover and flee, with several unfortunate ones getting shot and killed instantly.
The Blimpmon charges up an attack. You're close enough to see the Hi-Commandramon on the other side of the glass, barking orders to his squad. His eyes widen once they meet yours. He loses sight of you once Astamon kicks off the side of the building and goes straight for the top of the massive vehicle. You feel your teeth rattle as he impacts the bronze metal that shields the delicate balloon. Your partner puts the gun away and draws his knife, moving for the left side of the machine beast.
You notice that this side of the Digimon is exposed and vulnerable. Astamon leaps onto its balloon and sinks his balde into the soft material, sliding down its curved surface and carving a heinous gouge into it. The Digimon shudders in pain, rapidly losing altitude. Meanwhile, the two of you fall off the rear end of the Digimon and land on a rooftop. You turn back to see it descending to street level, and sigh in relief.

"Yeah... Would be easier to bring it down if we shot through it and killed the squad leader, but-"
<span class="mu-s">"No, I get you. They're not our enemies today. Even if we're theirs."</span> He grunts.
Now that the imminent danger is over, you retrieve him into your Digivice. Being inside as Astamon should preserve his energy by a bit. Several Pteramon fly overhead, but they don't manage to spot you once you hide his signal. You leave the blimp squad behind and move further into the city, leaping from rooftop to rooftop like you're used to.
