>>5367885Straight ahead, you see another hall leading you towards the main wing of the security, one that’s a straight shot to your destination. However, with the way the passage has few, if any, rooms to duck into, the place would basically be no better than a bottleneck, and you can only imagine what would happen if the five of you got flanked in there.
Yeah, you like everyone safe and pointedly bullet-free, thank you very much…
Veering right, you pass through a vestibule that leads into yet another hallway, and, with the cold, fluorescent lights bearing down on you, this hallway looks exactly the same as the last.
“Hey–” Valjean hisses through his teeth, clearly having some sort of problem. “The security wing was that way.” He jabs a thumb back in the direction of the other hallway.
“That place was barely big enough to fit two people. Wasn’t a good idea.” You return, not seeing what the big deal about taking this kind of detour is.
“Yeah, just can it and trust fish, will ya? She knows what she’s doin.’” Bernard defends your decision. “Didn’t take you along to complain.”
“Didn’t come to get lost either…” Valjean mumbles under his breath. Too used to the former Crux leader’s behavior, you opt to tune him out in favor of paying attention to your surroundings.
While the directions on the wall tell you to go back the way you came, attempting to reroute you back into that long, narrow hallway, you’re pretty sure that if you keep heading in the general direction of the main security wing you’ll eventually reach your destination, because, as the saying goes, all roads lead to Rome.
The longer you spend weaving and edging through the halls, you begin to wonder if that had been the case at all. Or perhaps you weren’t reading the maps back there correctly?
Several more minutes pass with little sign of that security wing.
Should you try going back? You shake your head at yourself, because you’re not even sure you could retrace your footsteps properly in this place. Petty as it is, you’d also rather not let Valjean know he was right all along– you’d never hear the end of his mouth for that.
