The truth is, you don’t like the idea of kneeling either. It’s one thing to be compassionate and agree with Anu’s ideals, but why does that mean you *must* worship him? Those are different things!
You never cared much about matters of faith, and the horrible experience with Gnolrek only makes you wary of anything to do with gods. When you met Anu, he sounded like a deity with good intentions - that’s why you let him grant you powers to fight the demons… but nothing stops a powerful being like him from lying or machinating secret plans, using you as a mortal puppet to do his bidding for what he would surely call a ‘greater’ purpose.
Even if you ARE a pawn in his big eye, you’d be willing to tolerate it - as long as he doesn’t ask you to love him in return. Thus, the dilemma you are currently going through. The only way of acquiring a boon from Anu is to open your heart to him and let it be ‘filled’ with his grace, as Hawkodesh puts it. Whatever that means, you fear that doing this may turn the transactional relationship you established with him at first into something more personal… and this sounds like giving him free pass to mess with your head.
You’re not sure of what to do. A part of you wants power, while the other doesn’t want to commit to Anu - or any god for that matter. They’re all too sketchy for your taste. He already gave you plenty of perks without asking for worship, so... is an extra boon REALLY worth letting go of your independence?
Despite everything, there is also this inner voice telling you to pray to him, just out of curiosity for what his ‘grace’ actually feels like. Is it right to be so adamant in rejecting him? Mom IS on his side, after all. Maybe you’re missing out due to being so… prideful.
Suddenly, Hawkodesh speaks within you. “Look, boy. I understand that Daitza and you are still coming out of the shock of the past few days, but… given the circumstances, the sooner you accept Anu into your heart, the better. Not only shall you experience a happiness out of this world – it will also allow you to receive His boons, increasing your powers.” The bird sighs. “However… the call is yours. The least I want to do is pressure you.”
