>Ask ALL the questions.
Clover stands and slams her hands on the table. The girl jolts, a little surprised at the sudden motion. There were way too many questions to ask, so she had to get through all of them now! “Do you know what the killer’s motive is?!”
Melissa blinks. She seems to debate something with herself internally within the span of half a second, before responding. “There is no magical girl killer.”
“Do you have any leads on who they are?!”
“There is no magical girl killer!”
“What links the victims?!”
The rapid questioning leaves the former detective flustered. “Uh, red strings, investigating the killer- theoretical killer!”
“Who’s gonna be attacked next?”
“I don’t know?” Her thoughts are starting to get jumbled. “Whoever she sees as dangerous? Theoretically. Wait, there is no magical girl killer, so no one!”
Clover looks at her with wolf-pup eyes. “Are you really giving up? Can’t we work together?”
Melissa purses her lips. “It’s just… there’s no point.”
“Is there any other info or stuff you could give me?”
“Nope.”
“How can I reach you if I have more questions?”
“You shouldn’t.” The girl looks down. “I wouldn’t really rely on me for anything.”
“…Oh.” Clover sits back down. The girl finishes the last drops of her coffee. The two of them stare at the table as the wolf-girl thinks. She thinks about their conversation, about life and death, about finding the killer, and about what they might have to do if they did. Then she thinks about the straw-haired girl who’d been left there in the dark office, alone. “…So, to answer your earlier question.”
