“So? Ready for an upgrade?” Said Jack jovially.
Kyrska gave him a grim look.
“More like a replacement. That Enforcer you gave me got sunk by some hotshot hired by the NKH. It happened during a raid on Shima; the guy had some kind of fast light cruiser with this weird beam cannon. Was escorted by elite strike craft. I think they were all ace custom models.”
Jack glanced apprehensively at you as he broke into a cold sweat.
“I managed to delay him long enough for reinforcements to get to me, but not before my entire strike craft complement was wiped out and my ship was blasted in half. I lost a lot of good men that day.”
“You thinking of getting back into that fight?”
“Not sure. Shirin Shimada is offering a fat sum to renew my contract, but if I’m going back into a warzone I’m going to need a more powerful ship. Can’t say I don’t enjoy the thrill, but that fight is pretty senseless; an old Empire crushing dissent when it could easily live and let live.”
You frown at the sentiment but withhold any opinions that might ruin a potential sale.
“I have half a mind to head up to the Union colonies and fend off those lizard terrorists. <span class="mu-s">More of a search and destroy operation</span> than a meat grinder. It’ll be easier on me and my men.”
There was an awkward silence as you and Jack processed the implications.
Eventually Kryska spoke up.
“You know what? Why don’t you help me decide? Pitch me a ship that you think would be good for me and based on its capabilities I’ll choose my next mission.”
