Historian like Plutarch thus actually talk about him doing so, and without any great judgement on his character in some of the accounts, which would make for rather poor slander. he's not alone, either since lots of Greek and Roman figures had young boys or men they were very, very fond of and brought everywhere with them.
These relationships aren't socially acceptable by today's standards even among gays, and I personally find them gross, but they're not very hetero.
