>>6219011With some additional time to kill, you decide to continue mingling with your companions. This time, you settle on Cassius. The sorcerer sits by himself, reading from a thick paperback. As you approach him, you get a glimpse at the cover of the book in his hands. It is entitled, “A Recollection of the Great Unification War of Fodlan.” You settle in across from the man, who looks up from his book to offer you a curt nod.
>“A Fodlan history book? Where’d you get that?”“It was a recent acquisition from Solis.” Cassius says. “With trade between our two nations gradually increasing, all manner of unique items from Fodlan find their way here, with Solis as their first stop. That was the main reason I was there. To acquire anything I could that could further increase my knowledge of your country. Of course, with all the recent ongoings, I’ve hardly had time to actually read this.”
>“Why does a Morfisian like you have such a big interest in Fodlan anyway? Many of your countrymen seem to have a pretty big superiority complex when it comes to us Fodlanders. Not to mention that incessant ‘Dark Continent’ moniker I’ve heard so much.”“Hmm, I suppose it started when I was a child. Knowledge of your country was especially scant back then, but I’d somehow managed to have a particular tome fall in my lap. It was a story about the War of Heroes, and the battles fought between the King of Liberation and his 10 Elites, against the forces of the Divine Seiros and her Four Saints. I was immediately enamored with it. There are no such tales of knights and chivalry here in Morfis. I devoured that book and its stories. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I read it front to back. Ever since then, I have been fascinated with your country and its culture, and I am proud to consider myself amongst the foremost leading experts on Fodlan here in Morfis.”
>“So you’re some sort of Fodlan fanatic? Interesting. Though I guess there are worse things to be. Though I question your self-proclaimed expert title. Some of those questions you asked me back at Solis were a bit strange.”Cassius winces. “I am loath to admit there is still much about your country that eludes me. But such is the pursuit of knowledge. My only hope is that by accompanying you on this journey, my understanding and appreciation of Fodlan will only increase.”
>“Have you ever thought about visiting?”“Visitation is still strictly forbidden under current law. Only those with special permission like the Adjunct may make the journey. Though if you win the Competition, then perhaps you will change that rule? If so, I would visit in a heartbeat. Perhaps I could acquire my own authentic suit of plate armor, just like a real Fodlan knight would wear.”
>“Heh, maybe. So, what do you make of that book?”
