>>6282600You open the door to find Cassius standing there, a half-finished bottle of wine from the party in his hands.
“I noticed your lights were still on.” The summoner says. “I figured you couldn’t sleep, so I thought I’d check in”
>“This looks suspicious, you know? I was expecting a secret admirer. A woman that came to wish me good luck. Not…you.”“A woman?” Cassius looks puzzled. “Hmm, I could see how you might think that. Still, who would that even be? Someone in our party, perhaps? I could certainly imagine that being the case. But who? Is there someone you like?”
>“Ugh. Forget about it. Come in.”You make room at the desk for you and Cassius to enjoy the bottle of wine that he’d brought. A nightcap would likely be the perfect thing to help you finally pass out. As the summoner pours the red into two glasses, he begins making conversation.
“I finished that book.” He says. “A Recollection of the Great Unification War of Fodlan.”
>“Oh yeah? What did you think?”“Well, it must have been an exciting time.” The summoner muses. “To think such drastic changes could occur over a span of merely five years. The author seemed to take great pains to detail every front of the war and the major figures on each side. I happened to come across a somewhat familiar name that he went into some depth on. Rex d’Rusalka.”
>“I hope you’re not expecting some stories there. I never met my father. He died before I was born.”“Yes, the book listed him amongst the notable casualties at the Battle of Gronder Field. I understand Cuthbert took part in that. Do you think he’d tell me about it?”
>“Fat chance. He barely spoke to me about it.”“I see. And what about your mother?”
>“Passed away in my teen years.” You recollect, taking a sip from your glass.“I’m sorry to hear that, Tristain. Forgive me for bringing up the subject.”
>“It’s fine. I’m fortunate to have known her. She was my father’s tactician during the war, and a powerful sorceress. But she was also an exceptionally kind and patient woman, who knew just how to handle me when I’d ‘act up.’ I suppose she had experience. I understand that my father must have been a difficult person to handle.”“By all accounts he was much feared during the war. His sacking of this ‘Charon’ was regarded as quite brutal, but also particularly effective in striking a blow to the already crippled Faerghus Kingdom.”
>“Father just supplied the might.” You laugh. “That was really mother’s work. It was her strategizing that allowed the Hellwings to cripple that city’s defenses. If Arios had half a brain, it would be she that he held a vendetta against, not my father.”“A veteran tactician in your mother, as well as a famed mercenary in this so-called ‘Witch.’ Bronte’s mother sounds like quite the character herself.” Cassius muses. “You must have grown up in an interesting household.”
