“Remember how Atticus Charles promised Eddie he wouldn’t ever harm him?” You leave the question hanging in the air. “Guess who met me in a dream?” Again, you take pause to let that sink in, Matt and Bernard collectively blanching. “Conduit’s been altered.”
Silence overtakes the room, their breakfasts forgotten in lieu of a far more pressing issue.
“Oh my shit, Ellie…” Matt breathes, running a hand through his hair. “Did you tell Eddie yet?”
Your lack of answer is enough of an answer for the room.
“Well, you kinda have to cause, you know, he’s his brother.” Bernard pipes in. “Hate to be the one to ask this, but how bad is he right now?”
“Not like Julia when we first found her, but he’s getting there...” As much as it pains you to say that, it’s the truth.
“We’ll just have to tell him when we’re laying down the groundwork for our plans, which isn’t a big deal, but, for as much as Eddie tries to convince himself that nothing’s happening to Conduit, he’s not stupid.” Matt says, pouring himself another cup of coffee. “He knows damn well what’s probably happening to him right now.”
