>>5323612“Hey hun, look!” your wife says, pointing down outside the fortress's walls. You turn, and see a lone figure approaching the wall. Wearing a wide-brimmed, pointy hat and a cloak to seemingly obscure their form, the figure approaches the fortified castle with little care. Just judging from how they move, and walking so boldly up to the nearly-destroyed wall, this is no doubt the person responsible. As they walk, you see several magical circles begin appearing around their feet, and you get a taste of this mage's power. And to your surprise, it doesn't feel like normal, mortal magic. You then try and sense for any ki from them, but sense absolutely nothing. Which reminds you of someone you'd faced not too long ago, and how you'd nearly killed that arrogant god. And would have, too, if it weren't for that interfering Kai bastard Kars.
“Explosion!” the woman declares, you flaring your energy up to shield your wife from the sudden blast's shock waves. But she doesn't avert her eyes, you sensing the intensity of her stare as you watch the damage to the wall unfold. A large section of stone near the top of the remaining wall tumbles down, crashing down inside the fortress to the screams of pain and shock from the defenders. But before the smoke's even clear, you can feel your wife start in your grip.
“Ah-! Sh-She's gone!” Megumin declares, you turning your gaze and, sure enough, the figure is long gone. No doubt a teleport spell of some sort, like your wife's friend and self-proclaimed rival Yunyun can do. “Where did she go?”
“I can't track her.” you say, Megumin turning around to look at you with a brow raised curiously. So you clarify, and watch her expression change. “I can't sense divine ki. I tried to sense their energy to track them the moment you pointed 'em out, but I can't follow them.”
“Dammit, I should have confronted her here.” your wife admonishes herself, shaking her head after a moment then gesturing to the fortress. “Well, it's too late now. Think you can help them?”
“With the wall?” you ask, an idea coming to mind as Megumin nods. “Alright, let's go make our introductions first.”
And so you fly down on the opposite side of the destruction that was just wrought, as the soldiers on the receiving side would no doubt be a little more jumpy than the door guards on 'friendly' soil. So you fly down, startling the four armed men stationed close together atop the wall as you enter into their lines of sight. They both jump in surprise, leveling their crossbows as you've learned they're called at you. But you pay the weapons no mind, giving them a wave as you land on the wall between them, setting Megumin down beside you.
