You know those ttrpgs with dramatic character creation like VIRTUE, FATE, FLAW etc, I am not sure which rpg first did this, I saw it first in Everway rpg. Anyway, I did some random reading, I discovered this random pseudoscientific mystical categorisation thing, importantly I would NOT take this system very seriously for real life or academic research purposes (it is on the level of tarot or astrology lol) but I think it might be interesting for generating RPG archetypes.
More importantly, I think it provides some ideas of how to NAVIGATE BETWEEN archetypes, emotional states and narrative goals. Eg in the traditional rpg, Gandalf is the wise wizard etc, he just never really adjusts or alters his role, but in real life, Gandalf would behave differently / adopt different roles if interacting with a prospective lover, or a parent (yes I know in LOTR the wizards are like angels not humans but nevertheless the point still holds). So look at this pseudomystical thing:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enneagram_of_Personality#Nine_typesRole / Fixation / Idea
1 Reformer - Resentment - Perfection
2 Helper, Giver - Flattery - Freedom, Will
3 Achiever, Performer - Vanity - Hope, Law
4 Individualist, Romantic - Melancholy - Origin
5 Investigator, Observer - Parsimony - Knowledge, Revelation
6 Loyalist - Cowardice - Faith
7 Enthusiast, Epicure - Planning - Work, Wisdom
8 Challenger, Protector - Vengeance - Truth
9 Peacemaker - Indolence - Love
It sort of follows that rpg Fate Flaw Virtue system, and there are three triads (Intellect: 5,6,7; Instinct: 8,9,1; Emotion 2,3,4)
The key idea with this system is it offers dynamics of ARCHETYPE TRANSITION, ie you are not perpetually stuck as "wise wizard" etc you might CHANGE ROLE based upon "security" and "stress" navigating between "self-preservation", "sexual/initimacy/connection" and "social / large group belonging" interaction contexts. There is some occult looking diagram with interconnected lines explaining this, see the wikipedia
You could probably adapt the nine archetype roles for various fantasy / scifi genre settings, I just thought this system where a single individual can switch between multiple behaviour archetypes and roles is better than the Jungian Wise Wizard etc or horrible Myers-Brigg introversion extroversion corporate type categorisations
Anyway maybe this helps with ideas for modelling emotions and creating rpg characters, I wouldn't take it too seriously for any other applications lol
