''So you're telling us you've always lived up there?'' Anais asks while pointing up. Darkness came early with winter onset, but the moon wasn't anywhere in the sky tonight. ''Now that's a miss.'' The princess played with her long hair.
''Our detour needed hundreds of pearls.'' You speak afterward. ''You must have spent some time in our realm. Otherwise, wouldn't the world assume you to be an Outsider?''
''Same questions,'' Ama comments, making a face halfway between pouting and awkward. ''You guys want to hear about little me huh? Better than a cold shoulder, I guess.''
''You don't want to?'' Ever kind, Shereen gives the witch a life-saving grace.
''Hrrrm.'' Ama groans, interlocks her fingers, and put her elbows on the table. ''Whatever. I doubt you guys will believe me.''
''I woke up on the moon one day, that's the earliest thing I can remember with some distinction. I think I lived up there for a long, long time... but it's all a mangled, confusing mess, one day my mind cleared up enough to make me realize I could think, and I suddenly gained the capability of an internal dialogue.'' With a snort and a derisive smirk, Ama briefly stops to glance at her audience. ''That happened during the middle of all the struggles with Pretenders gods and their followers running amoks... I could gaze into our world by looking at our big sphere, my vision projected itself in there.''
''I was able to travel anywhere like a ghost, floating around, traveling at an unbelievable speed... I could even dive into the sea, did you guys know the era of Pretenders had thriving undersea cities?'' She chuckles. ''When people talked, I instinctively understood what they said despite their languages... Still, all I could do was look. Sometimes, people would get this feeling as if I was there, it never lasted, but that's how it made me yearn for something more.''
''You've learned all about pearls by observing people like this?'' Shereen asked gently.
''Yep, although I wasn't doing it consciously, magery stuff was one form of entertainment amongst others. Most of the Sites of Powers I discovered were by happenstance or from spying on leaders and gods. Only one Pretender ever figured out my presence... Knowing fear, instead of observing it, was an experience.''
''What motivated you to become a witch?'' Vilma is unable to chase off her aggressiveness. ''Fuck with people like that?''
''I've always thought witches were cool.'' Ama doesn't try to be haughty or demeaning with the Litch. ''My contracts were empty shells, it was the ''gotcha'' moments that allowed me to hold influence over people. You know, Arawn when I put my shackle on you? I had prepared a ritual with astral pearls beforehand. All I needed was for you to let down your guard.'' An honest smile nestles on her lovely face. ''Rather fun, huh?''
''My father?'' That was a grudge you've been nursing quietly.
