“Hyenus.” All of a sudden, Hawkodesh’s blunt voice echoes within you, grabbing your attention. You gesture to Datz to give you a moment to talk to him. She understands and returns a quiet nod, but rolls her eyes for some reason…
You hear the angel sighing. “This whole idea of ‘not relying on Anu’ that you and Daitza share... it bothers me. While I understand that it is too early for you to comprehend the value of letting the Sky Father reign over one’s life – and why it is a virtue rather than a shortcoming - there is something I wish to make very clear to you from the get-go.” He sounds oddly annoyed as he speaks. You have a feeling he’s about to get preachy like after your sparring match with Daitza.
“Uh-huh. And what would that be?” you respond, ready to deal with whatever he’s going to say...
“Before you start thinking you can become some sort of godly uber-gnoll who can take out the armies of Hell alone or some such nonsense, I must respectfully bring you down to earth and warn you that this is *not* going to happen. Ever. Your body, albeit special, is still mortal and limited, and there is only so much you can do without Anu’s aid.”
“Are you telling me all this so I lose confidence and go pray for a boon? Because that ain’t happening.”
“No... what I seek is to give you a simple advice: mind that you do not become haughty as your power increases. It is only through Anu that we may achieve victory over the demons, as you did with the one you fought. To Him goes all the glory, Hyenus. Not you, not me, not anybody else.”
“Fine, fine. I get it. You’re saying I’m worthless without Anu, that he's the only reason I won that fight, that none of the merit is mine when I CLEARLY have some, blah blah blah…”
“My Father wishes that His followers are capable of fulfilling His will – His good, pleasing and perfect will. Others would have surely perished in your place, but you did not. You were capable of using His gifts cleverly, despite being the first time you are exposed to a situation like that. And for that, you have my most sincere congratulations. However…”
“However?”
“… You do need to keep in mind that far worse demons exist. Beings so evil and sadistic that their sole presence would bring you down to your knees out of sheer dread and fear. It matters not that you become the strongest mortal if there is no faith in your heart, for the trials that await you in Hell are not merely of physical nature... and if you are not ready, you *will* meet your downfall there.”
“You keep finding ways to shove your love for Anu down my throat, eh? I barely know your god, Hawkodesh. How can you expect me to put so much trust in him? How?”
“Faith will come with time. Until then, do not be so arrogant as to believe you can drop Him like an used tool after ensuring your training... because you *cannot* win this war without His aid. That is all I have to say to you."
