Immortality of the soul is a loathesome thing, because not even the Old Ones could protect themselves from torture. There's an entire race of Emperor or greater tier beings screaming in the very bowels of hell, and he doesn't even realize it.
Mankind as a race of blanks would be a much better existence. Live our lives in the glory of the Dark Age, embrace a quick but clean death in the end.
Not that TalOS would be aware of any of this anyway, but yeah it's still a bad plan from an outside perspective. It didn't work for the ancient alien frogs who transcended into beings of pure energy, and it would never have worked for mankind.
