>Administrator to Bond with Fortune. Talk about it being our first anomaly and a cool way to initiate new employees. Thank him for being cool so far. However, address his bullshit.
Anything to get your mind off what that lady said. She was so god damn familiar but there's nothing in your head. No name, no nothing.
"I'm working." You spit out, tar landing on your console. S-4M has learnt not to bother denying you but it's clear he's still worried.
"If you say so. You're going to burn yourself out, sir."
You don't answer. You stand up and exit your office. Your body is sore all over and your mouth burns but this is important. You eventually get to the cell and step into it.
There it is. The old fortune teller box. One of the first two anomalies you ever got. It feels like you've known this thing for a year.
[BOUND BY DUTY] It has been a trusted ally. A source of knowledge, good luck, and fortune.
[HOPELESS WRECK] IT HAS ALSO PLAYED AND FUCKED WITH US WITH OMINOUS BULLSHIT AND NUMBERS.
[HOPELESS WRECK] AND THIS STARS STUFF? IT WANTS US DEAD. I FUCKING KNOW IT.
[BOUND BY DUTY] Does it? When has it actively told us to do something fatal?
"Fortune. I know you're listening. I'm not sure how since you're just a box but hey!" You chuckle to yourself. "So. First, I gotta thank you. You're one of the more useful anomalies I've had. But listen here."
"I listen to your ominous stuff because it has helped me. I can just as freely tell you to fuck off and stop listening to you. Humans have free will regardless of your 'fate' shit. In fact, you have choices too."
"What the hell was up with messing around with Velvet? Or making us unable to burn the bags all at once? I doubt it was fate's will to do that. I bet you decided to do that." You take in a deep breath. God, you've been talking to a fucking rectangle like it was an actual living thing. What is wrong with you?
Several pieces of paper is spat out. You don't even wait for it to flutter over to you, you grab it out of the air and read it.
"Do you? Did you choose to forget? Did you choose to be an Administrator? Did you choose to rot?"
"Humans may have free will in a literal sense. But they always strive to give that to other powers."
"Your employees to your authority. The anomalies to their trauma or desires. You to forces you will never understand."
I must be right. I must be the prophet of Fate. Aren't I?
"I can't speak for anomalies but my employees CHOOSE to listen. I didn't want to be like this, but I can choose how to continue. Look. I liked you when you were just giving me numbers to obsess over and being a cute introduction for employees. But I am still the one in control. I always was."
"So look. I want to like you. So let's play nice for how little time you have left here. Ok?"
One last slip of paper flutters over to you as you turn around to leave. You grab it.
"We will see."
"I hope YOU make the right choice." You shake your head as you head back to your office.
