Odd smell aside, the three of you begin to wander throughout the station to see if there's anything particularly off. Yet the issue is that it's hard to really notice anything really out of place.
None of the stores are abandoned or obviously overflowing with way too many customers (sans that one clothing store you saw). All of the Drones passing you by are too busy trying to head somewhere to really notice any of you and the few that do mostly just sneer at Kiara.
The one thing that really bothers your group is subtle enough to almost be ignored.
"Guys. Where did the guards go?"
"Didn't they leave after Max talked to them? I can show you where-"
"No, no, not those guards. There's none of them ANYWHERE. Look!"
Kiara gestures towards every store and restaurant you pass by. The station is huge, way bigger than any station you've been to, so you would've expected to see SOME security guards standing around the stores. But no, she's right. They're gone.
"Huh." Benjamin's bird brain is trying to think of a reason as to how. "No, no, wouldn't make sense if it's a staff supply. You can grow Drone shells out of old newspaper and cardboard."
"Could be they're cottoning onto us. Your girlfriend or whatever did make a stink.
"I guess so but isn't this, like, too obvious? Even I could notice something's off."
"No. I think the other proposal I had in mind is worse: Those two might be the only security guards here at all today." Kiara's LED eyes are lighting up an off-shade of yellow now. "I don't detect any nearby."
[PERSON OF INTEREST] "I suppose it would be easy to get away with a shady stunt like that if no one else was here." That doesn't sit right with you at all. Who could've called off the rest of them?
"Maybe they don't need that many to begin with? This place does seem pretty orderly." Benjamin tries to find an explanation that sits well with him.
"Could be." It does make some sense to you. "But only two guards to deal with an 'imposter'? Plus a shady tip? I dunno."
[DELUSIONAL + RASH] "We should go beat up them up. They're obviously fakes AND we have powers on our side." "Yeah! Yeah! I can mimic one of their voices and lure them over so-"
"Woah." It's weird how you have to be the voice of reason but you promptly discourse the two. "No, no, let's talk to them first. And I think killing them WOULD be a GREAT way to get us killed." Something tells you an infinite swarm of Drones would be hard to get through.
The two relent and with Kiara's help as your own sentient GPS tracker, she leads all of you over to the nearest security post. The issue is that as the two of you arrive at the small counter...it's sealed shut by a hunk of sheet metal. A hastily scribbed note reading "CLOSED DUE TO INTERNAL ISSUES OPEN TOMORROW" is pinned to the front.
All three of you share a look. Something off is going on here. Kiara 'clears' her throat and as she speaks, a familiar monotone plays out of her voicebox.
