Here's a rough map I made. If we take the boat route we took in reverse. We do cut through a lot of travel but we go at the speed of boat not magic kung fu naruto run. In my brain, magic running is faster simply because somehow Tai Lung got to the valley of peace in such a short amount of time from a mountain range. Movie made it seem like it was a few days. So following that logic, I just thought it would be faster to go on land.
Hien can do Kung Fu run. He can do most Kung Fu things in the genre save for the fact that he's much much slower than you. In fact, he's slowing you down as is. Plus I didn't take into consideration you'd bring him to the valley of peace. If that's the case, then yeah boat is faster. Your son needs to rest more often than you.
Tl;dr, QM is shit at maps and never used them for that reason. Increase in travel priority is causing me to regret dozing off in highschool.
