>>5654180I've only scratched most of the HH books, I tried to get through them in chronological order but Horus Rising really turned me off halfway through.
What's your take on Ollanius Pious vs Ollanius Persson?
I always though that the idea of a perpetual reaching the Emperor with a magic space knife less impressive than the idea of him simply being a mortal man.
Imagine the admiralty, hearing the Emperor has boarded the fucking Vengeful Spirit and ordering every last surviving Solar Fleet ship to try and ram and board it. Each and everyone with so much as an engine to dogpile it.
Scores upon scores of vessels and hundreds of thousands dying in the first few moments just so that the surviving ships can actually latch onto the Vengeful Spirits hide and breach it with boarders or invade the landing docks, and even then the casualties mount. Where the Emperor's Custodes all perished, each a Demi-God warrior the worth of an army themselves, entire regiments disembark and throw themselves into the literal and actual demon infested hell that was the Vengeful Spirits inners.
And then, after Omnissiah only knows what it took to breach the bulkhead doors to Horus command bridge, where maybe millions had perished just to get him there from the outer hull to the center bridge, a single human guardsman, merely a mortal, with the aid of his dying friends throwing themselves at Horus elite terminator Justaerin just so he can stand and fire a single las gun shot at Horus. This single death enough to make the Emperor see what his son had truly become.
A mere mortal man, not a perpetual, altering the fate of history, making the deaths of those who got him there not in vain.
