“I repaid my debt, and then some.” you said. “Now, you owe me big time.”
Slip seemed to open his mouth to protest, but he quickly closed it again and sank back into the sofa. It looked like he was slowly accepting of his situation.
“What’s your name?” you asked. “I already know your face, so don’t even think of lying to me. I’ll find out.”
The boy swallowed hard and leaned forward slightly. “Sam.” he answered. “Samuel Chung.”
You nodded your approval. “Nice to meet ya, Sam. Sit tight while we finish things up here, okay?” you said.
Sam was more than willing to do so, but you noticed that he was far less pale than he had been a moment ago. The chances of him throwing up on Silvermane's expensive rug just dropped considerably. He didn’t say another word, and simply waited for the meeting to be over. Not that it went on for much longer. Silvio would have to lay low for a while and see how many of his men had escaped, and how many of them would still be willing to work for him after the dust settled.
Considering the current position he was in, Silvermane asked to be given some time before he could have your money. That definitely rubbed everyone the wrong way, but there wasn’t much that could be done about it.
You offered to help him break his boys out if push came to shove. That seemed to cheer him up a bit, but he said that he preferred to go through his normal channels and discreetly work as many angles as he could without sticking his neck out. You could respect that.
It was dangerous to go out in costume right now. You might be better off following Silvio’s example and laying low yourselves. This safehouse was certainly big enough to share, but you’d have to be careful what you let slip around Silvio and Saya. That girl was far smarter than she had any right to be. Currently, Felicia was chatting her up about something involving the cybernetic enhancements built into her suit and body.
Speaking of girls, you should probably call Cindy and see what she was up to.
You dialed her number and waited for her to pick up. She didn’t. Not the first time, or the second or third time, either. Okay, maybe it wasn’t so bad. Maybe she just had a bad signal. No reason to overreact. Yup, totally fine.
What will you do?
