QM: So as we are coming close to the image limit of this thread, I might end the gameplay here for the time being and take a bit of a rest, hehe. I will stay in the thread for a while and answer questions. Maybe some day I will return to this setting with a COSMOGONY sequel and better ruleset and easier starting faction creation, hehe.
My aim in this quest was to create a gameplay hybrid of 4X videogames and rpgs, one where you could play as individuals on a planet but also as a faction building starships or constructing infrastructure and researching technologies etc. I also tried to embed as much science as possible / as I could copy from wikipedia, hehe.
I reckon that I probably should have made more out of the starting assets, perhaps given players a complete free choice instead of making it random, same with the starting location.
I think also I need to revise perhaps the build mechanic, on a text forum everything takes so long lol, people never really got to make full use of all their spaceships and technologies. We probably only managed about 4 turns of this game lol in 350 replies.
I did think about making it 1 reply = 1 turn, but that could lead to ridiculous situations where in the span of walking from 1 room to another, an entire spaceship fleet gets built etc. so I tried to make it more encounter / discretion based, but this dragged out the build mechanic perhaps too long.
One other thing I did with the virtual tabletop battlemaps is I actually increased the character scale to 2 units from 1 to improve visibility. I found in my past game settings that strictly using 1:1 scale did not really matter very much as anons did not really use the terrain features or map layout, so I just focused on bigger versions of portrait faces to make them appear easier to see.
The game is inspired by
Stars Without Number - the starting assets are from this, but I added a lot of my own
The Expanse
Revelation Space
Homeworld (1999) - this is a big influence
Dune
Foundation's Edge
Master Of Orion II
Fragile Allegiance (1996)
Ascendancy (1995)
Star Traders: Frontiers
Dead Space
Halo: Reach
I am also very interested in feedback, so if there are any improvements or criticisms / stupid unfair rules I made lol, or ideas you have for the setting, please let me know! Thank you!
