>>6141242>22, Crit Success! When you had heard that Langston and his Durnholders had engaged with the enemy, your first thoughts immediately went to gnolls or the Syndicate. They could be this south, supposedly an abandoned land could be a great hiding spot for all of them.
But when a second runner reached you and told you the details, you were flabbergasted and had him to explain it all again.
"Murlocs?" You asked the soldier in Durnholde's colours.
"Murlocs milord. As our men got on top of an 'ill we saw 'em." The soldier explained to you once more. "We got our arrer's poke 'em full of 'oles, never stood a chance 'ose critters."
He did seem awfully proud about it. First blood to the Durnholders it looked like.
"You didn't take any casualties? How many of them did you kill?" You asked the man.
"Not a single injury milord. And I 'ink 'ere were dozen of 'em, big an' small." He explained.
"Well thank you, you did a great job. Now go fill your waterskin from our supplies and tell Mr. Langston that he did a great job when you return." You told the Durnholder as he saluted you and left you.
"Murlocs? Here?" You asked Captain Cromwell. "Never seen one before, weren't they quite rare in Alterac?"
"They were Prince Alric, not that many waterways for them to live in." He told you.
You need to talk with Langston about the murlocs at some point. And tell him to choose runners who can speak clear Common, you had barely understood what the soldier was saying to you.
…
"So we are approximately here." You said and pointed at the map. "Somewhere between these three hills drawn on the map."
The map you had was just as clear as the speech of that Durnholder.
"Good progress for the first day." You continued.
Your officers were looking at the map spread on a tarp on the ground as you all sat around it. Having gone through what had happened, or more accurately what hadn't happened as it had been a really uneventful first day of the push into unclaimed territory, you were ready to call it for the day and have the men set up a simple camp of tarp covers and active patrols.
The columns would stay separated until otherwise told, at least in the early portions of the campaign. When the fighting starts and you push into gnoll territory, there is security in numbers.
"What are you going to do now Prince Alric?" Lieutenant Beckston asked you.
"Do you have anything in mind?" You asked him.
"Some of the men have wondered how Lord Uther's Expedition went and why did it fail?" Beckston said to you. "I told them that it didn't fail, but why are we then here?"
"You want me to talk with them?"
"It could help to convince them, hearing from you, after all Lord Uther seems to like you." Beckston said to you.
