In reality the Skitarii Legions are only one part of the Mechanicum's forces. The three principle military forces being the Sktarii Legions, the Taghmata, and the Titan Legions. In 30k skitarii are able to act as elite force that fights alongside other supporting units rather than the mainstay troops. It's mostly by 40k since things have gone to pot that the Taghmata take a back role and all that's left is mostly Skitarii (though the books do mention the organization exists in name).
Technically speaking, the Questoris Knights are part of the Taghmata given they aren't formally members of the priesthood or forge worlds but sworn to their King and offer their support.

Something to consider down the line to give the nobles a more military outlet in troop leadership, and further increase our military capacity. I'm sure our Domini would love to have yet more supporting troops.
