You must calm Matilda’s worries without going overboard, she likes it when people are efficient, doesn’t she?
“I’m at Chio’s apartment, but I’m fine, Mat. Wilma here can prove it. You know she’s a nurse, right?” You say.
“You’re talking to Matilda? Say hi for me!” Wilma is happy to hear about the unofficial tomato!
“Wilma says hi.” You say.
“That’s where she is…” Matilda sighs with relief. Just a little. “And yes, I’m aware…” She still sounds doubtful.
“Matilda, I’m not messing around. Trust me.” You try to sound as serious as you can muster. You mean business!
“...Very well, I will.” Matilda comes to her senses and stops running.
“No buts?” You expected her to threaten you or insult you, or say something passive-aggressive! Like ‘she’s going to kill you if you don’t come back’ type of stuff!
“No buts.” Matilda keeps it succinct. She’ll probably blame Wilma if something bad happens.
“Cool. So, huh, any tips? I’ll be breaking into T-Rex’s place to steal a mysterious scroll that’s probably the reason why his boss shot up in the underworld. If I have the time, I might even steal his fish. Or cook it so that he and his guests eat the fish version of my cake.” You babble.
“Yes, I heard you the first time.” Matilda rolls her eyes. Probably. You can’t see her. “If anything, what I want to bring up is a little tale about this Zexian man.”
“You know him?” You didn’t think she’d be this involved!
“Not personally.” Matilda shuts it down. “After our return from the bubble, my grandfather experienced something similar to what Wilma had gone through. He remembers the time I spent with him inside that dimension, and he has become more open about his past. He won’t outright say it, but it’s self-evident if you spend time with him.”
“He’s the type to keep it nebulous.” You lie. He outright told you everything about Matilda when you met him, the guy was probably dying to tell someone his secrets.
