She motions for a server to come bring the two of you a few beers. Ice cold ones at that. The next few days are spent preparing the newly-renovated school house for the festivities and reading a stack of reports you brought with. The insanity of not being able to take just a few days off is not lost on you. It’s also a good opportunity to catch up on some reading, with old instruction manuals on small-unit tactics and the history of Colonial America being worked through. Your remaining companions trickle in over the next few days, by foot or cart. The residents of Goodsprings are more than willing to make room for them to stay, eager to hear stories about the famous Courier Six.
You don’t greet them right as they arrive, because you’re in the desert hunting down the ingredients for your “Courier Casserole”, a nutritious and incredibly filling meal invented by yourself. It has molerat breast, brahmin flank and deathclaw hindquarters. You use purified pork n beans, fresh potatoes and fresh corn as a filling. Served with a side of desert salad.
With your creation finished and the guests assembled, you throw on a clean suit and enter the social hall. Your companion are scattered in groups, chatting among themselves and eating the impressive spread of food out out. Trudy is good on her promise and an actual band is playing music in the corner, though their instruments could use some tuning.
Veronica is the first to see you, feeding Rex a strip of bighorner meat. Rex is more than excited to give you licks for all the time spent away. Rex does, that is. You were never able to convince Veronica….
Veronica and Rex have been spending more and more time away from Hidden Valley due to the change of management. She isn’t too happy with the West Coast influx and is worried what it means for the Mojave Chapter. She’s instead been working down in Novac helping prospectors process their scrap. Rex doesn’t understand but his tail wags when you tell him you named something after him.
Veronica: Six, before you go, there’s something weird going on with Hidden Valley. I know you’ve seen the buildup of forces but almost everyone from the original chapter out here has either been sent elsewhere or completely frozen out.
[Thanks, Veronica. You always have a place with me if anything happens. And I’d never let anything happen to you.]
You promise to talk to her later and head over to Boone and Lily, fresh from having been tracking a small raider group in the South. Boone was going to miss the party but Lily wouldn’t hear it, almost dragging him by the ear back to Goodsprings. The promise of cold beer does lessen his frown, while Lily is excited to teach your friends something called “Duck, Duck, Goose!”
You bring two cold home-brews and cheers Boone.
[You look more relaxed than I’ve ever seen you. Should I be worried?]
