Once the attack has been evaded, he continues swimming through space and attempting to reach Datamon. The closer he gets, the more often Vademon shows up for potshots, attempting to take his attention off his minion.

After a minute, he ends up close enough to the smaller Digimon, who's still not even trying to attack. He just keeps shooting little bombs into the space around him to protect himself. Astamon raises his gun and sprays wildly at the shield, detonating the tiny explosives so he can clear a space.

He lunges forward with the knife, intent on sinking it into the glass casing of his enemy's head. The foe's yellow eyes dim, and it holds its arms out.

The knife jabs into another force field, struggling to pierce through. Before it can reach its target, a larger explosion rings out from it, sending Astamon flying off into the distance. Bands of purple electricity coil around his limbs, electrocuting him and temporarily disabling his movements. You watch in horror as the damage surges through his body. Even then, the Digimon doesn't try to capitalize on it. It just starts swimming further away, setting up more of the bombs solely for self-defense.
"ASTAMON!"
This was a big mistake. Getting caught off-guard by some unknown ability was exactly what you feared.

The saucer with Vademon in it returns. While Astamon is wounded, it leaps out of the saucer and begins wiggling wildly, floating above him and focusing all his energy into his hands.
