"If you want to be with me so badly then fine! Join me and let us sail the seas together! But I will not be some government dog or let anyone tell me how to live my life ever again!"
You extend a hand to Mary with full sincerity. She however is too busy sobbing and wiping her eyes to take it. Once she's done venting her emotions and is ready to make her choice she looks completely drained and exhausted, in some ways even worse than when you beat her into the ground during your mad rampage. Looking at her own palm she clenches it into a fist and takes a deep, painful breath.
"No. Thank you. I am a marine. Like my mother and father before me. I won't abandon my duty and I'll keep fighting. But thank you for the offer. And for finally opening my eyes. I only wish that our memories together meant something to you. But I guess even that's too much to ask for."
"Mary. After you were done happily playing with me I was beaten for not working. The only warmth I felt from your "games" were when the grown ups grabbed the fire iron afterwards. It was not any better than what I usually got."
"Yeah... I guess it wasn't. Just remember one thing Silver. When the time comes for you to suffer through the same thing you put others through don't expect them to care about your sad story. It doesn't justify your actions."
"Never said it did. My strength does that. Goodbye Mary. Oh. And one more thing. I promised Bear I won't hurt you. But that courtesy has its limit."
She seems surprised by that.
"I don't care about what backroom deals dad made with you. I'm a grown up and can take care of myself now. So the next time we meet Silver it'll be on the battlefield. Remember that!"
She turns away from you and begins walking.
"Lucci. Kaku. Let's go."
They leave the deck of your ship but you do catch one more thing that Mary mutters once she feels like she's far enough away from your ship.
"Sifu. I'll forward my resignation from Aegis to you."
With them gone you give the order to the Dauntless to disembark. Out in the open water and away from all the nonsense of the marines Marcella looks upon you.
"That was a bit heavy Silver."
"Yes. And?"
"Just saying that you could've been gentler. Almost felt bad for the stupid government girl."
"At least it got through to her. Now it won't hurt her."
"You sure about that?"
"Yeah. Wounds can't heal when the weapon is still in them."
"And if Clown did the same to you? Would you still be saying all that?"
"Yeah. And I'd do the same thing Mary wants to now. If she wants to kill me now then that's fine. I'd do the same. Doesn't mean I'll let her though."
"Don't let Spider hear me saying that but... Jesus."
