Escape with the prisoner after killing the Burgomaster: 13
--
With the prisoner, you swiftly dash down the hallway. All you need to do is run through the mansion's art hall and make it around the bend and lock yourself in the main bedroom chamber you saw earlier - that should buy you enough time to escape into the attic, and discover more about the Baron before you are caught.
But your feet don't carry you fast enough! Two armed guards ascending the stairs spot you as you make it to the end of the hall, their weapons drawn. You try to rush past them, but one of them grabs your shoulder, and the other shouts "Stop!"
You try to wriggle free, but before you know it, six more people - four guards, and two of what appear to be nobles or mansion staff - have ascended the stairs, all armed. You realize this situation is hopeless. If you fight them, more will come. If you cast a spell, like calm emotions for instance, the likelihood of all of them failing to resist it is hopeless. Even if you could take on the entire town in a fight (which you cannot) you do not have the heart to commit mass murder.
This is a series of miscalculations that has lead to your arrest. You must escape... you have to, to find Joannus, but there's no getting out of the current predicament.
The guards also apprehend the prisoner.
"Hey!" the prisoner says. "I don't know her! I had nothing to do with-"
He is interrupted by the sound of the noblewoman discovering the Baron's corpse in the hall. Another man runs over, giving you a vengeful look as he passes. You hear bits of the ensuing conversation as you are lead down the stairs by the guards. It sounds like they may be taking his corpse into the church to see if they can muster a miracle, but they do not sound hopeful.
You rest easy knowing that if there's any possibility for him to be revived, the spell you cast should ensure it.
